Hello there A customer of ours have a problem with standalone backup. During the backup of his system disk he gets the following errors: %BACKUP-E-READATTR, error reading attributes for 'file-spec' %SYSTEM-F-DEVNOTMOUNT, device is not mounted (no %BACKUP-E-VBNMISSING) BACKUP/IMAGE on the same disk works fine from working system. He didn't have this problem before he upgraded his system from v5.5-2 to v6.2, and created a new version of the standalone backup. Note 1128 in VMSNOTES_V12 describes a similar problem, only it is on version 5.5-2. Any idea? Thanks Rafi

We need the particular version of standalone BACKUP, the >>> BOOT commands used, the BACKUP command(s) used, and some basic information on the VAX system and the devices in question. Have the customer use a distribution kit standalone BACKUP root, or boot a standalone BACKUP root off media other than the system disk. (This will confirm that a new version of BACKUP is actually in use.) The customer can use a kit from, say, the V7.1 release, or similar. Also check for -- and apply any -- VAXBACK ECO kits for OpenVMS VAX V6.2. (And then rebuild the standalone BACKUP kit, for good measure.) |
