611.0. "Delta time patch on OpenVMS/alpha V1.5" by ROMTSS::SALVATI (Lu computer ? sono perplesso...) Mon May 19 1997 09:21

    Hi there,

Is there any information on the "delta time patch" for OpenVMS/Alpha
V1.5 . It seeems to me that this version is not mentioned, but today
which is the 19-may-1997 one of my customers which is running this
version, is having problems with the date being one year on the future.

Engineering says now that the patch is needed from V5.0 VMS/VAX, so,
due to the fact that Alpha code is derived form VMS/VAX V5.4-2, to my
opinion the same patch is needed on OpenVMS/Alpha V1.5.

I know this version is not supported anymore but we have 280 branches
of an italian bank with the Alpha server with the date incorrect.

    Info/help/patch kindly appreciated.

    Sebastiano

Hi Sebastiano,

Note 238.* is about this patch. I don't think Alpha V1.5 is covered
at present, but look there for a more authoritative answer. The
customer is only likely to have a problem if they use LIB$ time
routines with relative times which are likely to exceed 9999 days (ie
based on the Unix epoch of 1-Jan-1970).

Cheers,

Ian Brockbank

Please IPMT this call *now*, and please see my response to this
question over in 238.269, and please see the other notes over in
238.* for details on delta-time ECO.

We need specifics of the problem(s) being seen, as an off-by-a-year
does not obviously fit into the delta-time ECO problem(s) we would
expect to see. It does fit into some other problems that have been
seen over the years, problems that are unrelated to the delta-time ECO.

Thanks to both for your help.
There are other colleagues that are working on this issue, and i think
an IPMT case has been already opened or is going to be opened.

    Ciao
