566.0. "How many shadow sets you try?" by OSOSPS::HIRAIWA (Yoshitaka Hiraiwa/SPS) Tue May 06 1997 03:23

Hi,

Looking at the SPD for V6.1 Volume Shadowing supports a maximum of 130 shadow
sets. My customer has exceeded 130 shadowsets for some time now.

I'd like to know how many shadow sets other customers have or had in past
on VMS/VAX V6.1?

Please let me know!

Thanks for any help

My customer had 304 shadowsets under V6.1
Mostly they were single member shadowsets, less than 30 were two member
shadowsets. This, of course, guarantees nothing but it may help you to sleep
easier at night.

Cheers

Thank you for quick reply, Paul!

>My customer had 304 shadowsets under V6.1

My customer has two clusters. One has 169 shadowsets, other has 155
shadowsets. Mostly they are two member shadowsets.

Yes, this gurantees nothing indeed, but I have a good sleep.

Thanks

I believe the supported limit for V7.1 is now 200 sets.

There isn't any hard limit other than the max. unit number of 9999 as long as
you have enough nonpaged pool, license units (if applicable) and, of course,
disk drives.

Reading from V7.1 SPD, multimember shadowsets is 500 sets. Single shadowsets
is unlimited.

NPAGEDYN is 135000000 and my customer has unlimited license and over 800 disks
on each cluster.

Is there any consideration?

Thanks

Configuration Limits

Volume Shadowing for OpenVMS supports a maximum of 500 disks in
multimember (2- or 3-member) shadow sets on a single OpenVMS Cluster. An
unlimited number of single-member shadow sets is allowed on the same
OpenVMS Cluster. These limits are independent of controller and
device type.

I read this to say you can have 250 2-member sets, or 166 3-member sets,
or anything in between.

Yes, you're right!
From V6.2 SPD, SPD uses disks, not sets.
