551.0. "Need to keep NCP database updated" by TIMAST::16.77.208.102::dprose () Wed Apr 30 1997 11:22

Sorry if this is the wrong conference .. if so please point me to the
correct one.

I would like to keep my NCP database current with all the nodes
in our internal network. Does anyone know of a procedure or com
file that I can run to do this?

Thanks
Dennis

   This is the wrong conference: BULEAN::DECNETVAX is the correct conference
   for DECnet Phase IV questions, and ANCHOR::NETUPDATE is the conference for
   NETUPDATE questions. (To find a conference, look in the master listings
   at HUMANE::SYS$PUBLIC:EASYNOTES.LIS.)

   There are several ways to resolve this: the NETUPDATEV2 tool is one, and
   the automatic DECdns lookups (with a few "fixed" nodes, should DECdns be
   down) is another -- the latter dynamic resolution is available on OpenVMS
   VAX DECnet Phase IV nodes, and is enabled with some NCP commands.

   And there is a periodic NCP> COPY KNOWN NODES FROM <node> TO BOTH command.

   With DECnet-Plus, one has access to both DECdns and to a permanent host
   database for those times when the DECdns server is either unreachable or
   malfunctioning.
