498.1 | Never done clean Alpha install, but see it everywhere | TAY2P1::HOWARD | Whoever it takes | Mon Apr 21 1997 12:03 | 9 |
| I'm sure you saw this documented as fixed in the V6.1 Release Notes. My
experience is that virtually every system has this problem unless it
has been fixed. (The instructions given involve a more a SET
FILE/ENTER to fix it. Not sure if your method is just as valid.)
Could it be that the version of standalone backup on the kit does not
have the fix?

498.2 | V7.1 from CD O.K FIS V6.2 not. | VIVIAN::D_BONO | | Fri May 09 1997 11:05 | 15 |

I have installed V7.1 from scratch from a CD and it had the file
identification name is correct i.e. VMS$COMMON.DIR.
Re .1 a set file/enter was not required as the alias was working
correctly i.e. the file id's were the same however the Identification
File Name from dump/head was still the old SYSCOMMON.DIR which was
causing DECinspect to fail. The rename fixes this.
I have looked at several OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 systems and they are all
wrong with SYSCOMMON.DIR as their name and they all were factory installed.

498.3 | Contact FIS Folks... | XDELTA::HOFFMAN | Steve, OpenVMS Engineering | Fri May 09 1997 12:52 | 9 |
|
Ring up the FIS folks or the vendor, depending on where the box had
the software installed -- there was a FIS comment card in with most
(all?) of the shipments -- or contact the site where the software
was installed. (NIO?)
[We FIS software. Sometimes we get systems assembled by one of our
channel partners, and these folks may not be using the same FIS as
we are -- the box may not have (does not have) the same FIS kit.]
