484.0. "System hangs in OPCCRASH.EXE" by BACHUS::WILLEMS (Johan Willems @BRO DTN 856-8739) Thu Apr 17 1997 08:59

Hallo,

I have a customer who is having problems with shutting down an alphastation
255/233 with OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1H3

During shutdown, the systems hangs after following message:

%VMSCLUSTER-I-MSCPCONN, connected to the MSCP server for the system disk.
and
%VMSCLUSTER-I-REINIT_WAIT, waiting for access to the system disk server.

and nothing happens anymore.

I found out that this happens in OPCCRASH.EXE

The customer added a second ethernet controller (DE205), since his environment
is standardized on 2base10 (thick wire) ethernet. The build incontroller is not
used at all (just terminated).

When we reconfigure the hardware to use the build in controller everything is
fine.

I also tried to use LAVC$STOP_BUS.EXE from sys$examples, to disable the first
controller, but this does not help.

Does anybody knows what happens

Kind regards,

Johan

As I can vague remember, that I saw a like problem on MIKASA (AS1000) and
in MIKASA file this question was answered as HW problem (one of cards
should take about 5min for complete reset).

.1 is about Mikasa/DEFPA so not a factor here.

Verify that the DE205 is set up correctly. The boot driver only works for
IOBASE 300, MEMBASE D0000, MEMLEN 10000. Verify that ISACFG at the console
has things set up like this and that you aren't using ISACONFIG.DAT (I think
thats what it is called) to configure the runtime driver. ISACFG is all that
is needed.

If that doesn't cure the problem, I'd suggest an IPMT to resolve.
