441.0. "MOP Protocol Question" by KISMIF::MARA (Kevin) Thu Apr 10 1997 10:20

I have a question regarding the differences, if any, between a VAX and an ALPHA
in loading MOP loadable files.

I am currently using the MOP protocol to download a variety of files such a
console firmware, and scripts, as well as terminal server software. I need to
know if I can substitute the VAX VMS load host with an ALPHA Open VMS system
directly or will I need modifying the loadable files in some way.

I wouldn't think there would be a problem substituting the VAX with an ALPHA but I
thought I would check first.

Thanks,

Kevin

441.1MOP Documentation Pointers...XDELTA::HOFFMANSteve, OpenVMS EngineeringThu Apr 10 1997 12:3020
    MOP servers on OpenVMS VAX and on OpenVMS Alpha use the same MOP
    download file format, and swapping the download files across the
    various MOP server architectures should not encounter any problems.
    (The product installation kits and such might not work across the
    architectures, but that's not what you appear to be asking here.)

    The Phase IV MOP architecture documentation is available via the
    order number AA-X436A-TK, and at the following (customer visible)
    sites:

    http://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/DEC/DECnet/PhaseIV/index.html
    ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com:/pub/DEC/DECnet/PhaseIV/

    the MOP documentation is in maintop30.txt.Z

    Also be aware that V6.2 and later include LANCP, which is an
    OpenVMS implementation of MOP -- as of V6.2, DECnet is not
    required for VMScluster satellite (MOP) download operations.

Thanks Steve,

that answers all the questions I have.
