436.0. "ALPLAN04_062 - DECNET does not start" by TAV02::GODOVNIK (Haim Godovnik) Wed Apr 09 1997 10:41

Hi,

A customer tried to instal ALPLAN04_062 on ALPHA VMS 6.2. ALPBOOT01_062 is
installed on his system. After installation and reboot he could not start
DECNET (Phase IV). He was getting "circuit synchronizing". He removed the ECO
and now everything works fine. It is an ALPHA 1000 4/266. Is it a known
problem?

   It's often pretty easy to find out about known problems...

   Check for a more recent patch, check for previous reports via COMET,
   then -- if it's not known -- IPMT it.

   The COMET search engine URL is: http://comet.alf.dec.com/

The text with that LAN kit should describe how the console environment variable
for EW has to be set correctly. If it was attached to thin-wire and EWA0_MODE
was set to twisted-pair then you would get the failure to start DECnet. Just
set EWA0_MODE correctly at the console. Or until you can reboot, use the
command MC LANCP SET DEV EWA/MEDIA=xxx to set it explicitly.
