Hi, What is the pro and con to set up pagefile on a strip-set of 2-3 disk for OVMS 6.2 1h3? The AlphaServer 4100 cluster has 4GB memory on each member. I believe it will improve performance if there is any paging I/O ( on the other hand, we try to reduce the hard page fault as much as possible) Thanks, Patrick

I'd first determine where the performance is being spent, and look for indications of where the present limits are... I'd add usually add more memory first... If the configuration is maxed out, there's no reason not to move the pagefile to a stripeset, but with the understanding that this configuration arguably increases the exposure to disk failures. I'd also look at spreading the pagefiles across spindles and I/O channels, as this can also reduce "hot-spots" in the system. You will be moving the secondary pagefiles only, unless you are using a controller-based stripeset... (Obviously...) |
