Hi all,
I have a system in a vmscluster environment, crashing several times
a month, basically with two kinds of crash:
- INVEXCEPTN @VBSS$SELECT_VBS_CANDIDATE+004AD with Swapper current
- DELCONPFN @MMG$DELCONPFN+00035
Other nodes in the cluster are not affected by these kinds of crashes
Anyway each node carry on a specific job.
System disk is the same, no files .EXE in the sys$specific
The following are taken from the INVEXCEPTN crash, in which the Swapper
is the current process.
It seems that the swapper fails because the SYS$DELPRC didn't
terminate in a clean way.
The value of the reference_count and that of process_index
of the Balance Slot Arrays, are inconsisten between them
- PHV$GL_REFCBAS = 0001
- PHV$GL_PIXBAS = FFFF
I've read of another occurence of this crash, that has been fixed
reducing the sysuaf quotas the processes used.
Does it make sense ?
Actually also here they use quite big values for process quotas like:
- Under sysgen
- PQL_MWSEXTENT = 786400
- WSMAX = 786400
- Under sysuaf
- WSextent: = 200000
I understand that using these value as PQL, is not the right way
to put quotas, and that they could do better using sysuaf instead.
Anyway I've seen some of the process running on this system growing
up to WSMAX.
Any suggestion is appreciated also other inputs on what is possible
to verify is welcome

First use CANASTA to see if this is a recongized and previously
reported crash, then -- if there is nothing obvious visible via
CANASTA that helps -- elevate this crash via IPMT.
For information CANASTA and on using the CANASTA e-mail server,
see VAXAXP::VMSNOTES note 233.*.
(Unless you're _very_ lucky, a crashdump won't get to the right
person here in engineering in a timely fashion. The IPMT will
get to the right person.)
