311.0. "Program get access violation after VMS upgrade." by HGOSPS::KENNETH () Wed Mar 12 1997 05:24

Hi,

Please forgive me if my question is a silly one. One of my customer has
just upgrade from Alpha VMS V6.1 to Alpha VMS V7.0. Some of the customer's
program (.exe) cannot be run after the upgrade. The message are as below:

$run daylog1
%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual address=
0000000066E9FC73, PC=....

Improperly handled conditon, image exit forced.

The program originally is developed on VAX platform and the customer use
VEST to mirgrate it to ALPHA VMS V6.1. There is no problem running on
ALPHA VMS V6.1.

During the VMS upgrade (V6.1 to V7.0) there is a warning message, something
like "unable to convert DCLTABLES". But the customer continue the upgrade.
After the upgrade, the customer reinstall all the layered products, including
COBOL.

The customer is very incorporative, he is unwilling to tell us what
the language use to write the program, he just told me maybe Cobol or Fortran.
I think the program code are lost.

My question is:
Do we need to perform any conversion again from V6.1 to V7.0?
Is there anyone knows the reasons or give me some hints? Any ideas?

Thanks for your help in advance.

what does a "correct" run of the program output?

I have a suspicion I know what's going on here but there's not enough
to go on to be sure.

Also, how does he run the program? does he have to define any logical
names to pick up special files (for example, VESTed copies of any
    RTLs)?

What is his link command on VAX?
