288.0. "Proxy access fails using cluster alias" by ALFSS1::jrbpse.alf.dec.com::benton () Wed Mar 05 1997 15:30

Since our system management folks have upgraded to OpenVms 6.2 and Decnet/osi, I have been able
to access a proxy account using the cluster alias. The following command fails:

	Dir ATOSOA"MAA_PROXY"::

The cluster consists of several nodes, one of which is ATO01. The following command is
successful:
	Dir ATO01"MAA_PROXY"::

I have been told that I need to change the node addressing to:

	Dir dec:.alf.atosoa"maa_proxy"::

This does, in fact, work. However, I believe that the failing command should work. Alias Incoming
is not enabled on any node in the cluster, and I think this is why access using the cluster alias
doesn't work. Access using ATOSOA"ACCOUNT PASSWORD":: also fails in the same manner.

Any help appreciated.

   Enable incoming alias connections on the nodes, and see if you
   can get a node synonym into DECdns for the ATOSOA:: node.

   Most OSI questions are best asked over in HELP::DECNET-OSI_FOR_VMS.

Steve, Thanks for the pointer.

I'll look over there.
