280.0. "Dead lock from audit server" by BACHUS::DUNSKI (Leslie VAN BUGGENHOUT (856-8753)) Wed Mar 05 1997 04:59

Custommer has a cluster with 2 boot nodes and 91 satelites.
When he tries to boot more than 4 satelites at once, audit server stops and
starts again automatically but startup process stays waiting (LEF ?).
Opcom gives following messages:

Message from user AUDIT$SERVER on 'nodename'
%RMS-F-DEADLOCK, deadlock detected
-AUDSRV-I-SIGNAL_PC, error occured at PC: 000DF32.

Custommer may reboot the satelite at a more quiet moment.

280.1If It's Not In COMET, IPMT It...XDELTA::HOFFMANSteve, OpenVMS EngineeringWed Mar 05 1997 10:3317
Get the relevent patches for whatever version(s) and platform(s)
OpenVMS is running on here, and apply them. The patch area is
    at http://www.service.digital.com/html/patch_public.html.

Check COMET and the patch area -- if the problem persists and if
you are unable to locate a previous discussion, raise an IPMT.
(I checked COMET and didn't see anything obviously related...)

(Obviously, memory and network bandwidth, and other performance
factors, will be critical to the appropriate performance here.
There is a tool around -- BOOTSYNC -- that can throttle satellite
bootstraps after events such as power failures -- this tool allows
faster bootstraps, by reducing contention. The BOOTSYNC tool is/was
    available via ASSETS.)

Also see VMScluster 3045.0 -- if the files are still there...
