231.0. "Patch for INIT overwrites BACKUP/TAPE_EXP" by ASHAM::H_ANDERSSON () Thu Feb 20 1997 12:39

    Hi there,

    Please help me........

    One of my customer has stepped on a known BUG and I can't
    find the patch......if there is one.
    The bug is in VAX VMS V6.1 and it's the INIT-command overwriting
    a /REWIND/TAPE_EXPIRE date.

    I found a STARS-article:
    255-[OpenVMS] INITIALIZE Ignores Expiration Date on Magnetic Tape

    There's a workaround described in the article:

    > DIGITAL RESPONSE:
    >
    > OpenVMS Engineering has acknowledged this problem and plans to address
    > it in a future release.
    > \
    > \
    > \ NOTE TO SPECIALISTS:
    > \
    > \ Engineering has provided 2 new images that can be used to fix this
    > \ problem until an official patch is provided. INIT$SHR_AXP.EXE and
    > \ INIT$SHR_VAX.EXE can be found in: DOCROOT:[COMMON]. Copy the file
    > \ you need to SYS$SHARE:INIT$SHR.EXE.

    My question is: Is this problem fixed in a patch or is it the
                    workaround that is the solution ???

    If there is a patch, why is the article not updated ??

231.1How To Get This InformationXDELTA::HOFFMANSteve, OpenVMS EngineeringThu Feb 20 1997 13:317
   Check the internet patch area, and COMET and STARS, and if you are
   unable to locate an applicable patch, log an IPMT. As for why the
   article hasn't been updated, submit a comment. (I've been getting
   updates for various articles added to the databases -- there exists
   a very large volume of support articles, and there are few (no?)
   folks charged with purging and updating and cross-referencing them.)

    The name of the patch is VAXINIT01_070

    Thanks,
