I known that this may having nothing to do with this conference but this is just an idea i have about a certain problem and i would like to have some opinions on it. A costumer has logged a call complaining about this problem: VAX4000 - DSSI0-System Disk (v6.2) - DSSI1----------------- | HSD10 | -RZ29 \_DIA2 (mirror) | -RZ29 / | -RZ29 \_DIA3 (mirror) | -RZ29 / | VAX4000 | - DSSI0-SysDisk (v6.2) | - DSSI1----------------- Every time the system is starting up the DIA2 disk-set starts doing something like a rebuild; the leds of both disk of the set start blinking for about one hour. At the OS level, the VMS doesn't detect anything unusual. To VMS is like nothing is happening. So i figure that the problem is at the controller level. Am i right? The DIA2 set has some communs files like for instance the authorize file and i few others, and the other set has a database that is closed before any shutdown operation. In conclusion, the DIA2 set has some open files everytime the system is going down and the DIA3 set doesn't. Can this be the problem? There is already been an intervention at the costuer site to change the controller and to swap disks, but the problem is still happening. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks, NelsonR.

Nelson, Since VMS does cause the action to occur, open files is not likely. That would be true for a Host Based Shadowset, not a controller based mirrorset. It might be interesting to set host/dup to the HSD10 while the action is occurring and look at the mirrorset there. $ set host/dup/server=mscp$dup/task=params 'hsd10_nodename' HSD10> SHO DIA2 HSD10> SHO MIRROR I don't have an HSD10 handy to see what else we would want, but I can get one if needed. Let's see what the above commands show first. Mark d. |
