217.0. "ACCVIO From EXCHANGE/NETWORK/TRANSFER_MODE=CONVERT" by ZPOVC::NWE () Wed Feb 19 1997 05:01
Hi
Is there a workaround for an EXCHANGE/NETWORK/TRANSFER=CONVERT command
when the input file is larger than 255 blocks on alpha vms 6.2 ?
Any pointers or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks and regards,
Nwe

[OpenVMS] ACCVIO From EXCHANGE/NETWORK/TRANSFER_MODE=CONVERT Over Network

Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1994, 1995. All rights reserved.
PRODUCT: OpenVMS VAX, Versions 5.2 through 5.5-2HW
OpenVMS Alpha, Versions 1.5 through 6.2
COMPONENT: EXCHANGE/NETWORK Utility
SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation
SYMPTOM:
An EXCHANGE/NETWORK/TRANSFER=CONVERT command fails with an ACCVIO
error when the input file is larger than 255 blocks.
For example:
$ DIRECTORY/SIZE=ALL TEST.DAT
Directory USER1:[TEST]
TEST.DAT;1 963/963
$ EXCHANGE/NETWORK/TRANSFER=CONVERT -
$_ TEST.DAT -
$_ 0"username password"::TEST1.DAT
%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual address=
00118000, PC=8088CF48, PS=0000001B
$ DIRECTORY/SIZE=ALL TEST1.DAT
Directory USER1:[TEST]
TEST1.DAT;1 255/963
Under OpenVMS VAX, this problem occurs for network file transfers.
Under OpenVMS Alpha, it occurs for both local and network file
transfers.
NOTE: ACCVIO address and register values may vary depending on the
platform and operating system version.
DIGITAL RESPONSE 1:
This problem is corrected in OpenVMS VAX Version 6.0.
DIGITAL RESPONSE 2:
This problem has been reported to OpenVMS Alpha Engineering.
WORKAROUND:
For OpenVMS VAX only, copy the file to the local node and then issue
the EXCHANGE/NETWORK command on the local copy of the file.
For example:
$ COPY node"username password"::filespec []
$ EXCHANGE/NETWORK /TRANSFER_MODE=CONVERT input_file output_file
