Hello: An alphaserver 400 with VMS 7.1 exhibits the system disk offline when the startup does a MC SYSMAN IO AUTOCONFIGURE; after this comes online again and boots normally. ONCE BOOTED IF WE DO THE MC SYSMAN IO AUTOCONFIGURE WORKS FINE. CONFIGURATION: alphaserver 400 4/233 32 mb memory 2 x RZ26N-E 1 X TLZ09 1 X RRD45 The hardware has been reviewed and changed . Firmware update was done. After several tests we had determine that the problem seems to be in the combination RZ26-N, RRD45 and VMS 7.1. With VMS 6.2-1h3 works fine. The following test has done always without TLZ09. When the disk goes offline we see that a reset in the scsi has produced. If we try with other model of disk and without any RZ26N present in the bus, then works fine. The RZ26N are firmware version 0616. Following is an entry of the errorlog that apparently demonstrates some incompatibility between RZ26N (SCSI id 1) and the RRD45 (scsi id 4). Any ideas? Is there any bug in 7.1 or simply is best and it detects the real problem ? THANKS IN ADVANCE ******************************* ENTRY 4. ******************************* ERROR SEQUENCE 2. 208.1 | Check COMET and Patch Area, then IPMT | XDELTA::HOFFMAN | Steve, OpenVMS Engineering | Tue Feb 18 1997 09:43 | 14 |
There's a known bug in this area that sounds vaguely similar, and a patch is (or will soon be) available. See WRKSYS::ALPHASTATION note 1776.* for a discussion. Given the general area involved here, if the above-mentioned patch is not applicable and if you have not located any other relevent patches via the patch area search engine and COMET, please log an IPMT now. As an aside: I'd strongly recommend getting more memory for this system. An OpenVMS Alpha really needs more than 32MB physical, or performance will suffer.

Hi, Is the patch ready yet for this issue ? I can't find a reference to one. Should I also logg an IPMT, or are there already sufficient IPMT available ? Thanks in advance, Chris Sumner Enterprise Server Support, UK. (7833 3667)

Patch kit is currently being tested. It will be called ALPSCSI01_071. If you need a pre-release of the SYS$PKEDRIVER being referenced, send me some mail. I don't think there's any reason to log an IPMT case on this one. Mark d. |
