199.0. "PC/Xem configuration problem" by ROMTSS::SCIMIA () Mon Feb 17 1997 08:23

 Hi,

I've a customer who has purchased an Alphaserver mod 4000-4100 with an ISA
asynchronous host adapter, made by DigiBoard, to allow direct connection of
 terminals to the host.
My problem is configure the PC/Xem Digiboard host adapter.
During installation SRM console don't recognize PC/Xem device and when I try
to confingure the option in OpenVMS environment the "show dev TX" command
shows all TX devices offline (TXA0 TO TXA15) and TXA16 control device in
 online status.
DigiBoard installation manual refer to OpenVms AXP V6.1,6.2 for DGDRIVER
device driver installation but I need OpenVMS AXP V6.2-1H3 for Alphaserver
 4000 support.

 Scenario:
 ---------
 AlphaServer mod 4000-4100
 OpenVMS V6.2-1H3
 SRM console V3.0-10
CXI01-AA (DigiBoard PC/Xem ISA Host Adapter)

Is there anyone who has experienced with a same situation ?
OpenVMS AXP V6.2-1H3 provide support for Digiboard PC/Xem interface?
More details about that problem are described in my note at
 MVBLAB::AlphaServer_4100 entry 485.0.

 Thank

 Pino

OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1Hx is a proper superset of OpenVMS Alpha V6.2.
(All support that was in V6.2 -- with new hardware and new platform
support added -- is present in V6.2-1Hx.)

I'd contact Digi support and ask them for assistance configuring
this module. (I do not have a SYS$LOADABLE_IMAGES:*DG* file present
on V7.1, so I can only assume that this is a third-party driver that
is not integrated into OpenVMS, and that is seperately installed off
a vendor-provided media kit.) If so, check with Digi for a kit that
can be installed on V6.2-1Hx -- the V6.2 driver likely works under
    V6.2-1Hx.)

I remember that there were some problems specifically on the
ALphaserver 4100. As I recall, Digi was made aware of the problem.
You probably need to contact them for a later kit.

I've verified with Digi that the fix for this is in the latest kit.
It can be found at ftp://ftp.dgii.com/support/drivers/vms/released/

   Sue,

   thank for your info.
I've fixed the problem installing the latest released DGDRIVER V1.1.1
   from location ftp://ftp.dgii.com/support/drivers/vms/released/async
then I confirm that PC/Xem DigiBoard adapter is supported with AlphaServer
   4000 family under OpenVMS V6.2-1H3.
