197.0. "Backup question" by FORAT::PONS () Mon Feb 17 1997 04:04

	Hello,

The customer have a TZ88 connected in a HSD10, in a tape have a backup
standalone for a disk and after mount the tape /over=id and copy from
another unit (TU81+) four saveset to TZ88 tape, all of this is OK but
when the customer try to make a bac/list tape::second save_set/save
the unit goes until end of tape and not found the saveset.

If a customer make a bac/list unit:*, list all the savesets correctly.

	Any idea about???

	Thanks in advance

	Jordi.

re: `hello, hello'... If you need an answer, log an IPMT.

Please show us the exact DCL commands used to create and then later
access the saveset(s) -- the exact command sequence that could be
used to duplicate this behavious here in engineering. We also need
to know the OpenVMS platform and version, and what patches -- if
   any -- have been applied.

Direct tape-to-tape copies have always been somewhat questionable
practice. (COPY does not have the error correction and recovery
processing of BACKUP. And one usually uses only one tool when
creating a tape -- a tool such as BACKUP or COPY -- and not a mix
   of various tools.)

Without the commands and associated output/errors, I'd rather not
hazard a guess as to what is happening here...
