186.0. "OpenVMS VAX V7,0, DCPS V1.3 print jobs remain starting" by COMICS::SUMNERC (OpenVMS Counter Intelligence) Wed Feb 12 1997 11:50

    Hi,

I have a customer, who, since upgrading to OpenVMS VAX V7.0 is unable
to print jobs properly. When my customer sends jobs to the print queue,
the first job remains starting until one of the following events occur:

            1)The printer is power cycled
2)They log out and in to the DS port.

After this is done the next job enters the starting state until the
    above process is repeated.

Customer is also running DCPS V1.3 and DECnet OSI and has the following
    configuration:

                 +
    +-------+ |
    |VAX4300| |
    |V7.0 +----+
    | | |
    +-------+ +-[DS200]----LN06
     DECnetOSI |
     DCPS1.3 +

This works perfectly well under the unsupported OpenVMS V5.5-2.
We have installed the VAXTTDR01_070 patch, but this has no noticable
    effect.

    Any ideas ? should I IPMT ?

    Thanks in advance,

186.2some things to try...HAN::HALLEVolker Halle MCS @HAO DTN 863-5216Sat Feb 15 1997 11:0714
    Chris,

it looks like the print-symbiont cannot establish the LAT-session to
the terminal-server port. Can you have a look at the DECserver PORT
settings ? And the DECserver SHOW QUEUE, once the job is in STARTING ?
What does MC LATCP SHOW PORT LTAx: show at that time ?

With 2) you meant to say: They 'LOGOUT PORT x' the DECserver port, right ?

Also consider LAT and even the DECserver software. Can you stop &
unspool the queue and then $ COPY file LTAx:. Does that establish a
    connection and print something ?

    Volker.
