Hi All, Customer is running VMS 6.1 on a VAX. On several occasions the system has hung. Even Cntrl-Y at the operators console just produces "INTERRUPT" but no further response. Looking at the DECPS data it stops collecting information at 14:30. Analysis of the DECPS dump data show the previous 6 minutes indicated no MWAIT states or anything suspicious in the DUMP data. Timestamps in the operators log continue until 15:03 at which point the customer does CNTRL-P. Analysis of a previous crash dump was inconclusive although all of the indications suggest it was similar. The Customer is running Perfecttune, Perfectdisk and PerfectCache. I have seen one entry in the STARS database, article reference C940503-6781 but this applies to VMS 6.0 not 6.1. Analysis of the previous crash dump produce output similar to that in article. Rgds, Mark

Turn off the RAXCo products. If the behaviour continues, get a crash dump and IPMT. If the behaviour ceases, take it to RAXCO.

Next time it hangs, take 2-3 dozen PC samples from the console (ie halting the system then continuing it and wrtite down the PC) and then force a crash. Make sure the system is set-up to take a full memory dump as a partial dump is more than likely not to have the interesting info needed to analyze the hang. Additionally you could leave a process logged in at priority 17 and see if that process will respond if/when the system hangs. Jilly

Supposedly extending a very large directory can cause behavior like this. $ i = 1 $ loop: $ create x'i'.x $ i = i + 1 $ goto loop I don't know if I believe. |
