-< Navigator Gold with Java >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are pleased to announce the availability of the first beta version of
Netscape Navigator Gold V3.0 for OpenVMS Alpha with Java. But before you
start running all those cool Java applets, a word of caution. Many Java
applets are by design either CPU-bound or CPU-intensive. This doesn't matter
too much if you are on a single-user workstation, but on a multi-user
system, performance of the entire system may be impacted.

To install the Navigator image plus the Java class libraries. These are
located in BULOVA::IPS$KITS:

  NETSCAPE-EXPORT-ALPHA-JAVA-V30B5-020297.EXE 17010 blocks
  JAVA_30. 1414 blocks

AT THIS TIME ONLY AN ALPHA VERSION IS AVAILABLE. Due to the difference in
floating point formats, we don't yet have a VAX version.

The Java class libraries (JAVA_30.) need to be copied to either of the
[.NETSCAPE] sub-directories in SYS$LIBRARY or your SYS$LOGIN. Alternatively,
if you want to place the class libraries elsewhere, or change the name,
define the logical name NETSCAPE_CLASSPATH to point to the file.

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM-WIDE INSTALLATION
Copy the Navigator image to SYS$SYSTEM. Copy the JAVA_30 file to
SYS$COMMON:[SYSLIB.NETSCAPE] (create this sub-directory if you need to).

RECOMMENDED PERSONAL INSTALLATION
Copy the Navigator image to SYS$LOGIN or wherever you like to keep images.
Copy the JAVA_30 file to the [.NETSCAPE] sub-directory in your SYS$LOGIN.

DO NOT RENAME THE JAVA-30 file. It must be named "JAVA_30." (no file type).

BUG REPORTING - if you find a problem before Friday 7th February, reply to
this note as soon as possible. We have three engineers out at Netscape until
this date and problems reported before we leave stand a good chance of
getting fixed. After Friday, use the IPS-V20 QAR database on TRIFID.

Please include URL location and precise steps to reproduce the problem.
