107.0. "Queue journal file still growing" by KERNEL::HEGARTYP (Virtually Real) Wed Jan 29 1997 10:03

    Hi,

have a customer who's just upgraded from V5.5-2 to V6.1 and has
problems with the queue manager journal file increasing in size and
    filling up the disk.

he applied VAXQMAN02_070 but problem still exists or has at least
occurred once since this ECO has beeen applied.

does anyone know for sure if this ECO should fix this problem or is the
only real fix to upgrade to a higher version??

checked the link date/time of patched image and it is the newer one

    many thanks

Hi,

I have the same problem ie the queue journal file is still growing even after
the customer has applied the vaxqman01 patch. He has agreed to install the
latest one but as far as I can see there were no new fixes for this problem in
it. Any ideas?

Cust is on v6.2.

Thanks in advance

Yes; to make that journal file small again for a while,
just issue the magic commands:

$ MCR JBC$COMMAND
DIAGNOSTIC 7
$

	There! Wasn't that simple?

Thanks. That worked.

Another qs on this.

Is the following expected/normal behaviour?

He has 8 batch queues, 79 terminal queues. At the time of sho que/full he
had very few jobs running.

Have not much details on the size it grows but the example he gave me is:
grew to 425,000 blocks in since system startup(this was about 2 months).
Will see how fast it grows in a day tommorrow.

He has only one queue manager. The machine is a 4100 v6.2 and is in a single
node cluster.

The journal file never grew this size on 5.5-2.

	Claire,

We're very much duplicating a discussion that has happened more
than once before. Yes, the journal file does tend to grow very large
for no apparent reason in V6. I haven't heard anything that indicates
any fix in V7. MCR JBC$COMMAND DIAGNOSTIC 7 still works, though.
Maybe a VMS maven/mogul would like to step in and tell us about the
future of this "feature"...

	HTH,

    Hi,

The diagnostic 7 command for JBC$COMMAND does not seem to work for
anything except the default journal file. If you are running multiple
queue managers in a cluster, how do you shrink the other journal files?
