Had an interesting question posed to me today. Customer is looking for information on releases of OpenVMS VAX and Alpha starting with 6.0 ... when did they become the same release functionally and will they continue to be the same functionally. Just general information. The technical info they will look in release notes, new features, cover letters etc.. thanks.. Gary

It was with V6.1 that "parity" was said to have been reached between the platforms, though there were still a few differences. However, after that, Alpha started to add features faster than VAX and this trend will continue. There are some features that will likely never be made available on VAX, but others will be implemented on both platforms. At the normal user programming level, the two platforms will be very similar for a long time to come. If you want a more complete statement, you should contact a product manager. Steve | |||||
