Xuis Software Ltd - Company Confidential Software Performance Report - SPR# XS.01041 Entered by: Brian J. Ives on: 8-APR-1997 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Company : XuiS Software Ltd Contact : Brian J. Ives Telephone : 01372 728881 Product : MediaRobotUtility O/S type : Axp Version : T1.2(5) O/S version : V6.2 Priority : 3Low SPR Type : Suggestion --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Problem Summary: Should be able to display intermediate number of slots/column --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEM DESCRIPTION Simple TLZ07 DAT stacker has just 4 slots & 1 drive. The GUI option to display a variable number of slots per column can deal with 1, 2 or 4, but when 3 is selected on the slider - it drops back to 2. Does it have to have a number that exactly goes into the total number of slots? I would have expected (in this case) one row of 3 and another row of 1. One of our students wrote something similar for media management, and he would auto-configure based on the total number of tapes. Is this another possible option?

I'd love to be able to do this, but Motif won't let me! The slots icons are in a Motif RowColumn widget. We do the initial placement of icons by "hand", but then turn it over to Motif. When you use the Preferences option to change it, we simply change the XmNnumColumns resource of the RowColumn widget and let it handle the rest. Usually. I discovered early in the development of V1.1 that sometimes Motif wouldn't honor a particular value. I don't know how it decides whether to honor a value or not, but I haven't a way to get some values to work. It does seem to be related to the number of slots. Our initial selection of the number of columns depends on type of robot and the number of slots. On the TL820 family library we use the number of bin-packs in a face as the number of columns. On other library with more than 7 slots we use 4 columns. Smaller libraries use 1. But even on this initial placement, Motif will sometimes override us. On a 10 slot library we tested recently it used 5 columns. | |||||
