316.0. "TL800: Position claims to work, but lies." by NABETH::alan (Dr. File System's Home for Wayward Inodes.) Mon Apr 07 1997 18:17

This is merely a nit, but Position claims to work, but doesn't
do anything. I'll post Rick's reply.

Subject: RE: Another TL800 problem (nit).

Hi Alan,

The position to element is supported for compatibility with system software but
no physical movement will occur. This is carried as a minimal risk since the mcu
stores the elment addresses in memory and if the magazine is removed the mcu
rescans and loads to memory again. MCU memory failure or power loss would
corrupt the memory but would also force a new scan.

Correct, we implement this as a no-op just to be compatible with app
that uses this command but in TL800 it doesn't buy us much (1 sec top)
to position to element before move medium. We will be glad to entertain
    any comment.
