I've been told that the UNIX client for ABS does not support backup for AdvFS mount points. Could someone confirm that for me and, if possible, offer an explanation as to why they are not supported. Also, are there plans to provide this support? One of our customers is developing a backup strategy and this is an important issue for them. Thanks in advance, BC

ABS Unix Client does support SAVE/RESTORE requests to the Advanced File System. The actual support for this comes from GNU tar since that is the backup engine. I tested it here on our DIGITAL Unix system and it saved/restored a AdvFS mount point. The only problem that there will be is with the .tag and quota files under AdvFS. GNU tar with not restore these on an active file system. To restore an entire mount point, one would want to recreate it, then restore the entire structure under it. |
