Hi, I have a customer who is trying to restore a file from a backup saved by sls. He could not get it to work. I duplicated as below? What are we doing wrong and what can we do to make it work? He has 1 additional problem. When he tries to set the retention date on a storage class using the gui (retain of 3650) it complains that "requested retention exceeds storage class limit" We can do a set or create of the storage class and it accepts the date? Has this been reported and fixed? Thanks, Victoria PRIV_Victoria_URQUEL > catalog_obj :== $abs$system:abs_catalog_object PRIV_Victoria_URQUEL > catalog_obj Would you like to CREATE or SHOW the catalog object ([CREATE]/SHOW): create Enter catalog name: generic Enter catalog type ([BRIEF],SLS): sls Enter catalog owner [CURRENT_PROCESS]: Does this catalog use staging (Yes/[No]): no PRIV_Victoria_URQUEL > abs create storage_class generic/catalog=generic/type_of_ media=ta90e/access_control=(user_id=V_Heinicke,access="read") Run date 28-MAY-1997 11:44 System Backup Report Set GENERIC -- File *::DSA206:[V_HEINICKE]LOGIN.COM;* URQUEL::DISK6:[V_HEINICKE]LOGIN.COM;6 [VSG_SYSMGTB,V_HEINICKE] 28-MAY-1997 11:38 ABS505 DISK6.BAK URQUEL::DISK6:[V_HEINICKE]LOGIN.COM;5 [VSG_SYSMGTB,V_HEINICKE] 28-MAY-1997 11:38 ABS505 DISK6.BAK End of report PRIV_Victoria_URQUEL > abs lookup disk6:[v_heinicke]login.com/catalog=generic Unable to show object DISK6:[V_HEINICKE]LOGIN.COM for the following reason Selection criteria was not found We get a 'no object of this type found' followed by 'an object entry was not found in this catalog' when using lookup from the GUI. It is clearly searching the generic catalog. Help!!!!

Victoria, Can you try a couple of things? Can you do a storage report file on the file that you saved and show the output? Also, can you do a dump of the catalog and see what the filename string looks like? I suspect that ABS is parsing the filename and looking for something different than what SLS put into the catalog. Thanks, Chris | |||||

Hi Chris, This was a system backup we did and the output from a 'storage report system' was in the original note as follows: Run date 28-MAY-1997 11:44 System Backup Report Set GENERIC -- File *::DSA206:[V_HEINICKE]LOGIN.COM;* URQUEL::DISK6:[V_HEINICKE]LOGIN.COM;6 [VSG_SYSMGTB,V_HEINICKE] 28-MAY-1997 11:38 ABS505 DISK6.BAK URQUEL::DISK6:[V_HEINICKE]LOGIN.COM;5 [VSG_SYSMGTB,V_HEINICKE] 28-MAY-1997 11:38 ABS505 DISK6.BAK End of report Following is a dump of ABS_CATALOG_OBJECTS.DAT.
