Hi I have a customer that wants to lower the base priority of the ABS backups from 4 to 1, but he can't.(ABS V2.1 for VMS backup) Questions: ********** 1)does this priority "hard coded". 2)if not, how to to do to lower it ? Let me explain, when the backup is running the process that runs is ABS_BFADA9D1_1 and runs at base priority 4 $ sho proc/id=000000ED 24-APR-1997 18:35:31.12 User: ABS Process ID: 000000ED Node: PABSLS Process name: "ABS_BFADA9D1_1" Terminal: User Identifier: [ABS] Base priority: 4 Default file spec: Not available Devices allocated: PABSLS$FTA15: PABSLS$MKA500: He tries to lower user ABS priority to 1, restart backup but ABS_BFADA9D1_1 still running at priority 4. I have tested this on my LAB with the same result. The ABS_somenumericnumber is the subprocess that the VMS Backup engine actually runs in. The ABS Save/Restore Coordinator (which runs as user ABS for system backups) creates this subprocess. The values fed to the creprc system service by the coordinator cannot be defined by the user (in other words, they are hard coded). Why does the customer want to do this? Always trying to understand how the customers use ABS. Thanks, Kim

Thank you for the answer Kim. I give it to the customer that is a little bit disappointed. AS system manager he wants to "play" with priority to tune. >>>Why does the customer want to do this? Always trying to understand >>>how the customers use ABS. AT This customer (MOTOROLA), 24H/day there are users that works on the system, all the ABS backups run during night, but the users during that time see performance degradations so the question of this customer: "Will/When in a next release ABS support lowering base priority of the backup process" thanks Kim, Henri
