Hi, note 388 deals with catalog locations for clients and I would like to post my question / add my vote for the possibility to optionally have the VMS client catalog on the CSD as an alternative. The current ABS setup with the catalog on the VMS client along with staging is optimized for performance, no doubt. However, when it comes to disaster planning, you need to take care of multiple disks spread out over the clients and this task would be easier to accomplish with a central (set of) catalog(s). Maybe something like writing <SR>.STG locally and during the STG-->IDX update, pull it over to the CSD. Are there any plans for this ? Ewald.

Ewald, Having catalog files on the CSD (or server side) has been discussed within the engineering team before. I think it's on the requirements list that Judy Cross maintains. Please contact Judy about making this an ABS feature for future releases. For now, it is not in the plan for the next release of ABS. Keep the input coming to Judy, so that we know that's important for customers when we are in planning cycle. Masami |
