Hi all, I have a few questions regarding eXcursion and ABS-OMT. In the ABS-OMT Installation Guide, Section 3.6, Installing the NT Client Software, it displays the following notation... ----- Note: Before installing the NT client software, you must first install the DECwindows Motif software on the ABS OMT OpenVMS server node or OpenVMS Cluster. You must also copy the file named PCX$SERVER.COM from the eXcursion kit to the OpenVMS server node or OpenVMS Cluster. ------ There is little else about this that I have been able to find. Forgive my basic questions but I am not very familiar with eXcursion: - Where is the eXcursion kit on the OpenVMS Software Product Library? - Do you install eXcursion or only extract PCX$SERVER.COM? - Where do you put PCX$SERVER.COM on the OpenVMS server/cluster? - Where is it in the SPD that eXcursion is Optional Software? I only have ABS V2.1 SPD (48.16.06) and it does not mention eXcursion. I have done a little digging and found the eXcursion kit on our network. In the kit (zip file), there is no PCX$SERVER.COM. There is, however, a PCX_SERV.COM. In our STARS database, I have found reference to renaming PCX_SERV.COM to PCX$SERVER.COM. Also, placing the PCX$SERVER.COM file in SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]. Thanks for any help, Dan AFTERHRS VMS Support ps. If there are any questions, I will not be able respond until next Friday.

Hi Dan, First, the ABS OMT Installation Guide says you must install eXcursion, not DECwindows Motif. Also, that paragraph does not state anything about a file named PCX$SERVER.COM. Where did you obtain the ABS OMT Installation Guide? I have heard of several discrepencies concerning the ABS OMT documents, and we need to track where customers are getting there documentation from. But, aside from that, you are right about the ABS Version 2.1 SPD not stating it under Optional Software. That was an oversight on our part and it will be corrected. ABS OMT is part of the Affinity NT package being offered by Digital. To look at its SPD, see the following URL: http://www.openvms.digital.com/openvms/products/omt/omt_spd.html I *believe* (don't hold me to this) that eXcursion is included in the OMT kit. It is not part of the ABS OMT kit. Judy, maybe you can validate this for Dan. You should be installing eXcursion as instructed in the OpenVMS Management Tools installation instructions. See Page 3-6, section 3.6 of the ABS-OMT Installation Guide for the reference to PCX$SERVER.COM. We received this from engineering when they held their training class. Ted | |||||

Okay guys, my face is red now. I didn't update MY doc set with the latest installation guide. That paragraph correctly contains the info about the .COM file. However, the rest of information about eXcursion should be locateded in the OpenVMS Managment Tools Installation Guide. Deb |
