396.0. "ABS V 2.1 install fails, scheduler OLB missing..." by IJSAPL::HENK_H () Mon Mar 10 1997 10:36

    Hello,

    Just tried installing ABS V 2.1 on a standalone workstation and had
    the installation fail.

    Before installaing ABS I installed SLS (server kit) and the scheduler
    (also full kit) from the same march 1997 CD distribution so that all
    would be at the latest version.

    The installation of ABS failes because it cannot find the required
    object library in nsched$: which is supposed to be provided as part
    of a scheduler installation that includes callable interface support.

    I checked kitinstal.com and it seems CA has removed this option.
    You can no longer select the callable interface in the full scheduler
    kit. I did not check the crippled kit in the [SLSA028.KIT] directory
    so that may be OK but extracted *.OLB from the scheduler saveset .A

    Just to warn others going to install ABS on a customer system that has
    the full scheduler.

    Henk.

    Henk,

    Which version of the scheduler kit did you find that cannot install
    callable interface? Was it VAX or Alpha???

Hi Henk,

2.1b-09 should have the .olb back in it (on Alpha). It was removed
in the 07 version. I checked a 09 machine here and its there.

Also...it was never removed on the VAX.
396.4Alpha ECO contains the questionCOOKIE::HEISLERChris Heisler, ABS EngineeringMon Mar 10 1997 11:508
    Henk,

    	The ECO for the Alpha version contains the question about
    installing the callable interface. The "full" kit doesn't ask
    the question. We have it documented in section 2.1 in the
    ABS V2.1 Installation Guide (see the NOTE in that section).

396.5Asched 2.1B-1, install crippled kit ?IJSAPL::HENK_HMon Mar 10 1997 15:4819
    Re .2

    I just checked on the system but a $ sched show status returns
    V 2.B-1 as the version. The kit is from the march-97 alpha CD.
    Any specific image to check for this version ?

    Re .4

    I did not recognise the link between this and the install failing
    which is why I restored the AXP_NSCHED_SUBS.OLB file manually from
    the scheduler saveset and then installed ABS V 2.1 again but now
    successfully. Is a different kitinstal.com the only difference or
    should I rather install the crippled kit ?

    I have the march-97 CD's directly available and getting the ECO would
    require more effort so I'd rather re-install the scheduler if that's
    still needed.

    Henk.

396.7Use latest if possible.COOKIE::HEISLERChris Heisler, ABS EngineeringMon Mar 10 1997 16:4826
    Henk,

    If you are on OpenVMS V6.2, then you can probably use the scheduler
    that you have. We recommend using the latest version (v2.1b-9),
    and you must use it if you are on V7.0 or V7.1 OpenVMS, or things
    don't work properly with ABS.

    We have the kits in our directory on AIM$PUBLIC:

    	AIM$PUBLIC:[ARCHIVE_BACKUP.KITS.V21_SSB]

    Directory AIM$PUBLIC:[ARCHIVE_BACKUP.KITS.V21_SSB]

    ABS021.E;3          ABS021.F;3          ASCHED_E01B021.A;1
    ASCHED_E01B021.B;1
    ASCHED_E0903B021.A;4                    VSCHED_E09B021.A;2
    VSCHED_E09B021.B;2
    VSCHED_E09B021.C;2

    You would want to install ASCHED_E01B021 and then ASCHED_E0903B021.
    This would take you to the latest version, and you will get the
    question about installing the callable interface for scheduler.
    That is the question that puts the .olb image out there.
