Hi,
I am not quite sure what exactly is asked in the .0 notes. About
the configuration and license information, I asked our product manager
to send an SPD to you.
About using TZ877 and TL822, will you explain how you are using them,
or what operations you need to do with them? ABS does have bugs and
problems (just like any other software) and depending on how you are
using it or what you are going to do, it may or may not matter.
For the use of TZ877, we get a lot of complaints about not supporting
scratch/load capability. If that's what you need, we are working on
fixing it (see 394).
For the use of TL822, we get a lot of complaints about the way we
require MDMS configuration to be able to select corect volumes. See
chapter 4 of ABS V2.1 installation guide for configuration information.
About the question of equality between V2.1 ABS and V2.8 MDMS, no
the two products are never equal in any version. Or, are you asking
about compatibility?

| Assuming you have 2 clusters, 2 standalone OpenVMS alphas, 3 unix systems and
one NT and you want to backup all of them, you will need:
1 server license (we do however recommend 2 for failover)
1 openVMS client license per OpenVMS system having its own storage devices
3 Unix client licenses (the 5 pack would be the economical choice)
1 NT client license (again, the 5 pack might be a good idea if the number of NT
systems is expected to grow)
SLS and ABS use the same license.
The only additional software requirement is Digital TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS
- this is required for communications between the OpenVMS server and the NT
and Unix clients.
Hope this helps!
