379.0. "Merging from SLS to ABS??" by MUNICH::REIN (How come holes in SWISS CHEESE??) Fri Feb 14 1997 01:43

    Hallo engineers,

The environemt at a customerside is changeing, there is more
UNIX and more NT machines, which he wanted to backed up to a central
    TL820.

So he is asking about NT and UNIX Clients for SLS.

As I have never heard about it, I told him, that obviously he
could use ABS for backup all his stuff!

In the moment he is running SLS 2.7.

Most of his sorrow is, that he is loosing his SLS archive. I told him,
    that he will not!

He told us, that he is thinking about to buy a product called SESAM,
which can handle all the same way like SLS does and has several clients
    for NT UNIX etc.

The only goody I gave him that he doesnt have to buy a new license,
    when he goes to ABS.

In earlier days I was told, that there will be some migration tools,
helping the customer to move from SLS to ABS.

Is there a description available, where we can read, what to do in that
case.? What are the future plans ?

    kind regards

Volker,

You're not missing any news. There are no plans to provide NT or unix
clients for SLS. Enterprise clients are an ABS feature.

Your customer can run SLS and ABS at the same time as the starting point for
their upgrade process. The tools that will help make the upgrade more
transparent are being planned for the release after ABS V2.1.
