378.0. "Client GUI dies if SAVE REQUEST is created/modified" by ATZIS3::ARCH_R (Raimund ARCH,MCS Austria *791/2259) Thu Feb 13 1997 03:03

        Hello,

        is there anyone who had a similar problem.

        If on an ABS Client a save request is created or modified
        with the GUI and the option 'Add Object' is used then the Window
        disappears without leaving a trace(there's something written to
    	the GUI SaveLog but it can't be read because Window disappaers
    	immediately after that). Looking at the Accounting
        Record for ABS$GUI gives a Status of 00000001.
        No Problem to do the same operation on the ABS SERVER(with the
        same User/Quotas)as well as there is no problem on the CLIENT with
        creating/nodifying the SaveRequest using the CLI Interface.

        Does the problem arise because by using the GUI there are many
    	links for templates created ?
    	Any possibilities to find out what has been written to the GUI
    	SaveLog before it disappeared ?

        Environment:

        Alpha Server
        Open VMS 6.2-1H3
        ABS 2.0
        MDMS 2.8 with ECO installed.

378.1Yes, you can save the LOG file for the GUICOOKIE::COPELANDThu Feb 13 1997 08:506
    This has been an intermittent problem since the beginning. You can
    save the log file. From the main menu, under the File option,
    click Save Log. The log information is saved in
    SYS$LOGIN:PABUI_SESSION.LOG

    Hello deb,

    first I want to thank you for your answer

    second:
    	I know this possibility,but there's no time to do so
    	(and I doubt being 'Slowhand')
    third:
    	in that case it's not intermittend.It happens every time
    	if this option is selected.

378.3Does it dump?COOKIE::HEISLERChris Heisler, ABS EngineeringThu Feb 13 1997 10:388
    raimund,

    Do you get a dump on the screen where you originally ran
    the ABS$GUI?

    Does this only happen when you click on the ADD?

    Chris
378.4Neither Dump nor error statusATZIS3::ARCH_RRaimund ARCH,MCS Austria *791/2259Fri Feb 14 1997 00:5822
    Hello Chris,

>>> Do you get a dump on the screen where you originally ran
>>> the ABS$GUI?

    Sorry, no Dump available(ABS$GUI Image Rundown -> $Status 1)

>>> Does this only happen when you click on the ADD?

    No, it also happens if I doubleclick on existing Objects
    i.e. it happens everytime an additional Window
    (Include and Exclude Specification) should be opened.

    A diagnostic block is dumped into the GUI Log but I haven't
    been able to see the text( I think that I have seen something
    which has to do with Security (not on CSD...)).

    			With many thanks for investigating,
    						raimund

    running, windows, windows nt, vms? And what version. Also how you are
    running the gui, through excursion?

    Thanks, Mickey
