533.0. "defrag HSJ40 stripeset seen strange symptom in log file" by HGOSPS::MICKWIDLAM () Thu Apr 24 1997 04:31
I have a customer with DFO V2.2 on an Alpha V6.2-1H3 System. He tried
to defrag a HSJ40 controller based stripset with full log. From the log
file there were something strange:
Begin defragmentation preprocessing phase: 24-APR-1997 .....
OPEN AREA_05:[]
OPEN AREA_05:[]
OPEN AREA_05:[]
OPEN AREA_05:[]
OPEN AREA_05:[]
OPEN AREA_05:[]
End file defragmentation preporocessing phase: 24-APR-1997 .....
Statistics:
Number of files preprocessed: 13
Number of files defragmented: 10
:
:
Begin file defragmentation/placement phase: 24-APR-1997 .....
OPEN AREA_05:[]
OPEN AREA_05:[]
OPEN AREA_05:[]
FID = (67, 1233, 0) -- No such file!

From the begin defragmentation preprocessing phase, normally we should
see the filename for defrag, open and so on, but strange is the OPEN
didn't show any file.
The customer said that in normal disk (not stripped) are correct, also
the stripeset on HSJ50 controller are correct. Only those in HSJ40 have
problem.
Is there anyone seem similar case?
Thanks and regards,
Mickwid.

533.1 | What version of HSJ40 firmware do you have? | COOKIE::AMEND | | Thu Apr 24 1997 14:16 | 14 |

I created a strip set and defragmented and I did not get any
different log file. Could you send me the complete log. I was
curious if it just did the open files or all files.
I had the stripset on a
Alpha 7.1 with the HSJ40 V27J
VAX 6.2
What version of HSJ40 firmware do you have?
thanks

533.2 | problem not seen | HGOSPS::MICKWIDLAM | | Mon Apr 28 1997 20:43 | 9 |
| re .1
Customer don't see the problem again. From old log, the problem is not
related to the HSJ40. There are other stripeset on the same controller
didn't have same problem (he reported wrongly last time). I suggested
him to analyze the disk and monitor if the disk got problem.
Thanks,
Mickwid.
