379.0. "Executing SQL via RAS takes longer time " by STKHLM::KNORN (I'm still here) Wed May 28 1997 06:55
I have a script(.bat-file) on a server which executes
a sql command file via ISQL.
The sql-file contains a single call on a stored procedure.
When execusting this SQL-file locally on the node, the operation takes
about 2-3 minutes, which is great.
However, executing the .sql-file when connected to the node via RAS,
makes the operation last for about 15 minutes.
Why is this ?
Using SQL-trace on the client just tells me that the
operation takes longer time, not why it takes longer time. (Same
CPU and I/O numbers)
My view of this is, that I execute a function on a server with no
direct communication during the execution between client and server.
Why this involves a lot of network interaction between
client and server is a mystery to me. (The dial up monitor tells me
that a lot of bytes are sent/received during the call.)
Any ideas ?
