59.0. "Question about previous version of DECwindows Motif." by TKOV51::YOSHIMURA (Tom Yoshimura - FAE/Technology Product Business/Digital-Japan) Tue Feb 25 1997 03:28

Hello,

I saw the note topic 38.2 where is posted the known problems on DECwindows
Motif. And I have some question on this.

Q1: Will ECO patch that will fix the known problems release for all versions
    of DECwindows Motif?

Q2: Problems listed in the topic will occur with previous versions of
    DECwindows Motif(i.e V1.1, V1.2, V1.2-3 on VAX/Alpha)?

Thank you very much and best regards,

Tom Yoshimura

I think EDS will produce patch kits for DECwindows Motif V1.2-3 and V1.2-4
that include fixes for the Year 2000 problems, but I'm not not sure if
they've officially agreed to do this yet.

Yes, I believe so. I only looked at V1.2-4, but the problems are in code
that hasn't changed for several versions.

59.2Clarification of EDS positionDW011::KIRBYWed Mar 19 1997 10:4927
The required fixes are in sources for which EDS currently
does not have maintenance responsibility. The responsibility
for integrating these fixes into ECO's is one area in
which ownership is still being discussed between Digital
and EDS at a senior level.

Regardless of who has that responsibility an ECO will be
prepared for 1.2-4 and that will include the Y2K fixes.

1.2-3 is currently under Prior Version Support and nominally
falls out of support in April 1997. Therefore, we would not
normally produce an ECO for it (other than for customer
reported CLD's). However, Digital and EDS are aware that
customers using the International versions of DECWindows
(other than Japanese) cannot move forward to 1.2-4. Therefore,
there are ongoing discussions as to the support to be provided
for 1.2-3.

Probably support for 1.2-3 will continue in which case an ECO
would be issued incorporating the Y2K fixes.

As far as I am aware nobody is considering providing ECO's
for any version pre-dating 1.2-3.

Note that the issue of producing fixes and kits is distinct
from the issue of who undertakes the investigations - which
is another issue being discussed at a senior level.
