| DECnet/OSI 5.6B isn't supported any longer, so *if* it is impacted by the delta
time problem - that is, if code changes are required for 5.6B, they won't be
made.
However, I don't recall any files specific for DECnet/OSI being supplied by the
ECO that was released. I was under the impression that the problem was specific
to OpenVMS - that is, certain OpenVMS system services and/or run-time library
routines were doing an incorrect computation and would yield incorrect results.

Thank you for reply.
I have one more question,
What symptom will be seen on system running DECNET-plus V6.x without
VMS delta time ECO?
Thanks,
Makito

First off, DECnet/OSI and DECnet-Plus was not on the list of products effected
by the delta-time restriction, as a result, I would not expect to see any impact
to DECnet/OSI on a system that didn't have the ECO applied. However, the other
problems, such as MOTIF no longer working would suggest to me that the ECO
should be applied.

Actually, it *is* in one of the tables in one of the 10K-day pages in the
publically visible web pages.
I don't know why it is listed and I haven't found out who caused it to be
listed. I'm leaving my test systems in the lab alone until someone comes up with
a good reason to upgrade ...

| Well, if it puts anyones mind at ease, I applied the OpenVMS ECO to my system
(i'm running 6.3/ECO6) and it's working fine. Frankly, given the nature of the
problems you might encounter by not applying the delta time ECO, I cannot see
why anyone would even hesitate.

Speaking as someone who recently broke bits of NIS V3.1-9 by eliminating code
which genuinely was *NOT* used (!!!), I think I can think of a few reasons to
hesitate!
The original 10K day fix for V5.5-mumble (i.e. some or all of the V5.5-2
variants) was sufficiently obscurely broken that it got through the testing
process and had to be pulled.
Perhaps the current fix kits are broken only in obscure circumstances which will
happen *after* 19-MAY but will affect systems which don't necessarily need the
10K day patch ... who's to know?
I'm leaving my test systems alone because:
(a) they don't matter
(b) I don't have the time
(c) I want to see if the 10K-day bug actually hits anything
(d) I want to know if DECnet-Plus is actually hit
My workstation is running V7.1 and so should be OK.
Given that you have a system with the patch installed, I think between us we
have all the important bases covered!
