3892.0. "Aliuas with out extended function license is slow but reachable?" by NOTAMI::A_ANDERSON (CX03 2/H13 NSU/VAX MacGhille Aindrais) Wed Feb 26 1997 17:42
Hello All,
I just got off the phone with the customer. He had a simple problem but it did
not have the symptoms I would have expected.
He has a four node cluster two vaxes and two alphas, all four running VMS 6.2
DECnet/OSI 6.3 ECO6. One of the Alphas was configured for an Alias, and they
have a routeabout on the lan as a Phase V router. His complaint was connections
to the Alias was slow. The Alpha did not have a extended function license, so
after waving the SPD around a bit I convinced him to configure one of the Vaxes
to have an Alias port with a selection weight of zero. The VAX has a DVNETRTG
license. Performance to the Alias node improved significantly.
My question is with a end system license why did the Alias work at all. I would
have expected the Alias to be unreachable. Not reachable but with poor
performance.
Thanks,
Alan
