3881.0. "Corrupt net$config.dat file" by CXO3W1::M_SHELDON () Thu Feb 20 1997 15:53

I have a customer who's OpenVMS V7.1 Alpha system came with
DECnet-Plus V7.1 installed. He configured it for use with the
LOCAL naming option, and it works just fine until a reboot
when sys$node is now not defined and the node forgets its name
in NCL.

I have traced it down to a "bogus" sys$system:net$config.dat
file being written every time the NCL>rename new name LOCAL:.PCS04
command is issued. His looks like the following:

$ dump sys$system:net$config.dat
Dump of file SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSEXE]NET$CONFIG.DAT;1 on 20-FEB-1997 14:23:40.36
File ID (6743,18,0) End of file block 2 / Allocated 4

We tried removing DECNET_OSI, reinstalling it from CD, and rebooting
but the problem is still there. We tried deleting the
net$config.dat file, renaming the node, and running a full
net$configure but his net$acp ??? process wants to write
this bogus file. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !

    Strange. Yes, that is indeed a corrupt NET$CONFIG.DAT file.

    The only thing I can think of is some error in the LOCAL registration.
    Unfortunately, I am not well enough versed in cdi to be able to tell
    you which magic registration files to delete, but I suspect that you
    need to delete something else that's corrupt that a simple
    de-installation of DECnet/OSI wouldn't do for you.

    Any other suggestions?
