Hello I have a VAX running VMS 6.1. The DECNET Version is 6.3-ECO3 I also installed at the time CDIVAX063.A which gave me the dynamic CDI cache feature. Now I wish to upgrade to DECNET-OSI 6.3-ECO6 which brings with it the dynamic CDI cache feature. I tried this upgrade on a test machine and found out that my old DECNET$CDI_CACHE.DAT was removed. Doing a dump on the new CDI cache shows that the version of the cache is 2.2 opposed to 2.1 that came with CDIVAX063.A. My question is how do I upgrade my big cluster without losing the old cache? It is now about 4K blocks in size and I do not want to lose it. Boaz

Boaz, I think that the file formats for the CDI cache have changed, so the old file will not work with the new software. Therefore. you do not want to keep the old file! (I know you'll lose the currently cached data, but that should be restored from DNS fairly quickly, once you start to use the system.) Regards, John | |||||

John, Thanks. I was afraid of this. From my past experience with DNS it will take a while to populate the new CDI cache to the current level. Boaz |
