Hello, We have a customer who is using VAX VMS 5.5-2 and is planning a migration to VAX VMS 6.2. Alongside, DECnet Phase 4 (in VMS 5.5-2) will be upgraded to DECnet/OSI (in VMS 6.2). Currently, we have 2 queries : 1. This customer already has programs written using the QIO interface for task-to-task programs in DECnet Phase 4. It is understood that IPC is used in DECnet/OSI for inter-process communication. Is QIO interface supported in DECnet/OSI ? 2. The package PSI v4.3 is supported in DECnet Phase 4. Is PSI supported in VAX VMS 6.2 ? Please advise. Best regards Chris

> Is QIO interface supported in DECnet/OSI ? Yes it is. Anything that worked (and is correctly coded) before, should carry on working. DECnet-Plus has exposed a number of working but incorrect programs, but generally you should have no problems upgrading. > Is PSI supported in VAX VMS 6.2 ? Yes but neither PSI nor WANDD are installed by default - you must ask for them explicitly. Again the Phase IV programming interface has been preserved. Antonio

However 'working and correct programs" which are sensitive to QIO status codes and/or decnet mailbox messages may encounter problems. I believe you need DECnet/OSI V6.3 ECO6 to address many of these.
3849.3 | Do not install P.S.I. V4.3 on VMS V6.2 ! | COMICS::WEIR | John Weir, UK Country Support | Thu Jan 30 1997 04:22 | 19 |
Chris, Just to clarify (in case you really do not know anything about this!!)... To get PSI functionality on VAX VMS V6.2 you must install DECnet/OSI (eg V6.3 ECO-6). Do *not* install VAX P.S.I. V4.3, as that is not supported on VMS V6.2 (actually, I assume it will not install, but I have never been sufficiently bored to test it !). As Antonio states, when you install DECnet/OSI the installation procedure will ask whether you want the defaults. Answer "NO" and then select P.S.I. and WANDD as additional options (else they will not be included in the installation). Regards, John |
