32.0. "Product presale for Powermart alone ???" by STKHLM::KNORN (I'm still here) Tue Apr 01 1997 09:46

I'd like to start a thread of discussion around the situation where
customers want us (digital) to provide presale activities around
Powermart. Since we're not allowed to sell the product outside the
Digital Data Mart, there're no direct $$'s in this type of activities
    from what I understand.

Lately I've had several requests from customers around Powermart
itself, not releated to the DDM. The customers are interested in the
powermart product itself so solve a business problem. This means that
I have to do traditional product presale activities on Powermart, but
the problem is that we (digital) don't get paid for this. (We might
later get consultancy work but that's not clear in the beginning).

It might be worth mentioning that Sweden don't have a reseller for
powermart. (I've heard that Denmark and Norway will have soon).

Have You come across the same problem ?

How have You dealt with it ? What is Your advice ?

Stefan,
Hmmm yes difficult to undertake if there's no hope of any consulting to be got
from the pre-sales.
Unless the customer is willing to make some kind of informal committment,or
that you thnik that thismight be a way into the customer, then I'd
say hand the opportunity over to Ediz.

Also I'dsend a note to Mike Stahl suggesting that we should maybe become a
reseller of Informatica. That would allow us to capitalize on all the training
we've done - we can sell Informatica consulting on top of selling the tool.
