| I'm sorry to say that a little glitch occurred in the construction of the zip
file. If you've copied the file already and have tried to install, you'll run
into an error when restoring the TelcoDatamart_backup.dat database file.
The error is casued by a file name being incorrect. One of the files
of the MSSQL backups should be called TelcoDatamart_backup.dat and in fact is
called telcodm.dat
The error is very simple to correct. Rename the file in the \mssql\backups
diretcory to where you copied it, and then simply re-run the dataloader, sql
script.
I'll fix the zip file as soon as I can open it - it's being copied right
now...!

Feedback on The Telco Demo
--------------------------
1. Installation Documentation.
The Installation Steps on pages 3 to 5 are slightly skew-whiff!
i.e. There are numbered as follows:
1. Unzip...
2. Select...
3. Start...
1. Create...
2. Run...
3. Run...
4. Now...
The latter steps 1 to 4 should be 4 to 7.
2. Script Documentation.
Some small errors to mention (I'll skip spelling mistakes, grammar,
etc. which a few minutes of proof reading should have caught!)...
Page 3. qry5_top5services is missing from the list of documents.
Page 6. "... used PowerMart Designer to give the field names in the
Data Mart MUCH MORE FRIENDLY NAMES than their counterparts..."
> I didn't notice any significant differences!
"... we're going to run a session now that will extract the
LATEST DAY'S WORTH OF RENTAL TRANSACTIONS from the source..."
> looks like a case of Cut & Paste from Bob's Video demo!
Page 7. "... the Server Operations menu" should be...
"... the Server Requests menu"
> some mistake was in Bob's Video demo!
Page 10. "Select the Telco Universe to build the new Report."
> There are 2 Telco Universes so which one do you pick?
Telco Universe (Telco.unv)
Telco Universe (BusinessObjects Universe)
Page 10. "Hit the run button." should be...
"Hit the Apply button. Then close the Slice & Dice panel."
This is about 7 lines from the bottom of the page and not
to be confused with the other correct mention of "Hit the
run button." in the middle of the page!
3. Installation.
A general comment here is that there does not appear to be any
overall strategy to coordinate the co-existance of more than one demo.
i.e. Some of us have already installed Bob's Video demo on our system.
The Telco Demo does not take this into consideration and has the
potential of "nobbling" Bob's Video Demo... poor old Bob!
There may indeed be other demo's in the future which will "nobble"
the Telco Demo and so on.
This "nobbling" affect is manifested mainly in the Business Objects
environment in Step 2 on Page 3. By following this step blindly you
overwrite any existing Business Objects files in the directory
\demo\BusinessObjects\LocData.
Some suggested solutions:
a. Rename existing files
i.e. Bomain.key to Bob_Bomain.key
Objects.lsi to Bob_Objects.lsi
b. Ensure that any new demo contains all previous Business Objects
demo users.
i.e. demosa for Bob's Video demo
telco for TeleCom demo
c. Design all demos to use the same Business Objects demo user
i.e. demosa
> I vote for option c.
3. Running the Demo
It failed due to the wrong Drive specified for the Data Files
directory for the sessions :
ses_CustomerRefresh_Monthly
ses_TelcoRefresh_Monthly
i.e. in PowerMart Server Manager, select a session
e.g. ses_CustomerRefresh_Monthly
Then edit the Drive of the Data Files Directory as follows:
Operations->Edit...-> Data Files tab
Directory: D:\pmserver\data\ ... was wrong for me
C:\pmserver\data\ ... was good for me!
I Hope this helps others when they install and run the TeleCom demo.
Regards,
James
