25.0. "Powermart installation fails" by HERON::ROWLANDS (Rob Rowlands @vbo 828 5480) Fri Jan 31 1997 11:53

During the installation of the Server on NT V4, often the Error Mesage 'No user
account PowerMart found' or words to that effect.
The solution is to create an NT User account named PowerMart (I usually give
the password as PowerMart - don't know whether it's necessary, I suspect not).
Add the PowerMart account to the Adminstrators Group.

Re-install Powermart (if the resinstall fails again with same message, reboot
then reinstall).

In addition to Robs comment I have some experience to share:

I wanted to install the DDM on my HiNote Ultra II which runs
    NT workstation software.

First of all I read the DDM installation manual by 'headers'
meaning that I first tried to install the PowerMart,PM, server
portion, since that's what chapter 2.1 states "Install the PM Server",
whereas step 1 refers to the client portion "..run
    \client\disk1\setup.exe.

So I installed the PM client which is easy.

I then wanted to install the PM server software and ran into the error
    Rob mentions in .0.
(Now do notice that I was logged into a domain, domainX, while trying
    to install the PM server).

I created an PM-account on my local NT-node, but the problem was still
there, until I realized that the account should be added in the DOMAIN,
and not on my local node.
I added the account on the primary domainserver and got another error,
something with security....NT... This error was caused by the fact that
my own domain account was not allowed to alter properties on any other
account. (PM Installation program changes the PowerMart password to
    something else I presume).
We gave me temporarily the rights to alter other accounts in the domain
and also set the PM-account so that it was allowed to run as a service.

Now the PM-server service ran OK.

BUT, since I want to run DDM locally, standalone on my laptop, I
yesterday logged in as the Administator on my standalone node and
created a PowerMart account on my node, with the ritghs to start as
    a service.
I then reinstalled PM-server (which deinstalls the current version)
    and voila', it worked.

I managed to get in contact with PowerMart technical support, but at
that time I had something up and running. It is a "minor" problem with
the time difference to california, since when they start in the morning
at 8 am, it's already 5 pm here in Europe.
Now lets see it I can get the BOB demo to work until tomorrow morning.

    Cheers,

    Stefan
25.2More experienceHERON::ROWLANDSRob Rowlands @vbo 828 5480Tue Feb 11 1997 10:538
More experience:
- if installing on a laptop and logged in to a domain, disconnect the
network from the laptop before installing - then there's no check
to the domain controller for the username.

- the right to 'log on as a service' is an Advanced user right - to see this in
the user administrator, you need to check the 'advanced rights' check
  box.

More Experience:

Having installed everything on a laptop (disconnected from the network) and
getting past the 'PowerMart' user name installtion problem, time comes to start
the Powermart server (having correctly configured the powermart service of
cousre).
Now connected back to the network, once more I get a logon error
when starting the service 'Logon invalid'. Smells of something familiar...

So figuring out some way to tell the damned thing to check the local machine
and not the domain controller, I ran into the service startup options for
Powermart Service. There's a little check box there which says:
Log on As:
'System Account'
or
'This Account' - which points to the PowerMart account.

Guess what, checking the 'System Account' really helps...! - Service starts
beautifully...

Without wanting to state the obvious but the way I believe it works
    is as follows.

The PowerMart service (process) under Windows NT needs an NT account
under which to start and function. You can either use the system
account or you can create a new NT account under which to execute the
service. If you create a new account then the username and password
must be supplied to the service startup information otherwise the
    startup will fail.

The same applies to SQL Server for the SQL Executive account. The thing
to be aware of is that if you change the password of the account under
NT then the service startup password must also be changed to match.

When I configured the PowerMart service I defaulted to the system
account. Longer term this probably not a smart move. Its got to be
better from a performance tuning and management point of view if
services can be identified individually (ie. as separate processes).

Then again, just getting it to work is a relief!

    Nick.
25.5Local vs. Domain PowerMart process accountNETRIX::"[email protected]"Jean-Francois SordetMon Apr 07 1997 15:2022
From what I've come through with the PowerMart Server installation, it seems
that if you wish to use a local PowerMart account you must be logged on
locally
whereas if you wish to use a domain PowerMart account you must be logged in
the
domain.

The account must be named PowerMart (password PowerMart for example), member
of
the Administrators group, and be granted the advanced right to "log on as a
service".

I also feel it very odd that you must install the PowerMart Client (so that
you
can create a PowerMart repository) prior to installing the Server and finally
be able to run the PowerMart service successfully.
