742.0. "Soltice from SUN" by TLAV02::SOMNUK () Wed Jun 04 1997 21:08

    Dear All,

    Right now we complete with SUN on backup solution. SUN has propose
    Soltice. SUN claim that it can do a prallel backup of Informix
    Database. SUN said that it can backup a single file in parallel to
    multiple devices. Is this true? Is there such technology in the
    industry? It similar to RAID technology. Does anybody know this product
    well? We want to beat SUN out of this account badly since it is our
    install-based. This is a Telecom account. They buy US$ 4 million each
    year so we don't want to lose this account.

    Thank You Very Much

    Regards,
    Somnuk

Soltice Backup is a repackaged NetWorker.
Currently Sun's web pages list version 4.2.6.
NetWorker 4.3 for Digital UNIX is based on 4.2.7 code
plus many enhancements. There is an informix business
suite product for solaris, hp-ux and aix (see the URL:
www.legato.com/prod/dmi.html). We do not have an
informix module for Digital UNIX at this time. Where
is the database going to run?
742.2TLAV02::16.158.208.47::SOMNUKThu Jun 05 1997 09:368
What do you mean by where is the database going
run? Is it mean the machine? It will be running
on AS8400. Do we have any other solution that we
can do a parallel backup the Informix database
(a database file).

Somnuk

NetWorker can backup raw partitions in parallel. We're working
on plans for the Informix module because of field demand -
however, we're not there yet.

742.4How to backup raw devices?TLAV01::SOMNUKThu Jun 05 1997 22:416
    How do we backup from raw device? Does the browser (nwbackup) able to
    see the raw device or do we have to use a command line mode to backup
    the raw devices.
