726.0. "nsr4.3 alpha NT install problem" by CIRCUS::SCHMIDT () Fri May 30 1997 08:47

I know I'm doing something stupid here but I don't know what.

We upgraded Alpha NT3.51 server system that had nsr client v3.2 bits to
to NT4.0. I then tried to install the nsr 4.3 kit hoping to select the
client installation senario.

At first the install shield came up, followed by the "checking system
configuration" pop up & then the message "You need to run the installation
from an account with admin priv's". Naturally I'm logged on as
administrator.

To bypass this error I had to remove the nsrexecd service from the
registery. Now at the "checking system configuration" phase I get the
error "you must have tcpip or spx/ipx services up & running". Of course
the tcpip stack is running fine.

Any hints on what to look for or what to do?

Thanks...

hmmm, the 3.2 client bits... must have been the v3.51 client.

I'd really suggest uninstalling the old client, if possible. I
don't think they had the v3.51 uninstall work well with regard
to removing all the info from the Registry and what have
you. The v4.3. install should have caught that the older
client was installed but it doesn't expect to see old bits on
NT 4.0 systems, so I will bet you found a case that wasn't
covered.

If you can run the uninstall for the old client, try that first.
After that you may need to remove any NetWorker Registry
entries, disable the old service names, and possibly remove
all the old binaries as well.

For some reason, this looked like it should have gone here.

I suggest that you close all windows except file manager
before you run the installation.
