714.0. "Am I running too new a version?" by SANITY::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Tue May 27 1997 09:00

    Hi

It appears that I'm using NetWorker Client for Digital UNIX V4.2B on an
    DEC OSF/1 V3.0B system. I've read the Installation Guide, and I don't
even know how we got this installed, as the latest NetWorker client for
this version of OSF is V3.1A.

What should I do? Rip out V4.2B, and install V3.1A?

    Thanks!

I think we haven't tested this combination. Does it seem to
work?

    Re .1, yep.
Re .2, agreed, but not mine to say.

    I'm leaning to removing V4.2B via nsr_ize -u, and installing V3.1A of
    NetWorker. Any thoughts or concerns?

Make sure you pick up the patches from the FTP site.

The perferred solution would be to upgrade both OS and NetWorker
to current levels.

If upgrading the OS is not possible, then you should revert NetWorker
to 3.1A. Later versions of NetWorker are built on 3.2x of the OS, and
forward compatibility is not guaranteed by the operating system.

Note that you may not be able to recover data with NSR V3.1A
if the data was saved on a 4.2a system of NetWorker.

    Thanks, both, for the reminders.
