At the moment one of my customers has 3 different Digital UNIX Networker servers. Each server do the backup for a number of clients. Now he wants reconfigure his installation. And he want to have only one Networker server. Is it possible to move the indexes from one Networker server to another ? Regards and thanks, Karsten Elgaard MCS-Denmark

You can move indexes from one machine to another, but all of the indexes and configuration must be moved at one time. There is no facility for combining indexes from several different servers into one set of indexes. You have two choices in this case: 1. Install the new server and start doing backups on that, but leave the old servers up until the retention period has passed for the last tape used on those machines. 2. Use scanner to build up new indexes with old tapes, on the new server. However, keep in mind that scanned in indexes have a retention period of forever. -- Rich Randall |
